My dear Wife

I had the honor of dining with the Premier and Mrs. Mackenzie yesterday evening. The party consisted of several of the Ministers and the Hon. Mr. Walkem, Premier of British Columbia, Mr Mackenzie was exceedingly kind and pleasant, but I was especially pleased with Mrs. McKenzie she is a late handsome woman very pleasing with kind scotch manners- I asked Mr. Walkem to come home with me on Saturday to see you and the children. But am not sure that he can come as he has so many invitations- amongst others the Hon. Mr. Huntington asked him to dine with him on saturday evening, but he (Walkem) said he had promised to go home with me. Huntington said he could go by the last train- leaving here at 10 p.m. and getting into Brockville at two, he asked me to join the dinner party which will include the Premier and Mrs. Mckenzie- I accepted on condition that Mr. Walkem did the same- which he was to decide to day. But I have not been able to see him- However if I am not home at nine p.m. tomorrow you may expect me at two or three on Sunday morning- and you had better keep a spare bed for Walkem unless I telegraph you to the contrary though Walkem is such a great talker I have little hope of getting him away from a dinner party at ten o’clock

Yours ever

M. Smith

Walkem did not come
