My dear Nannie

I received your letter of the 2nd instant two days ago. it was forwarded to me at Yale – I am glad to know you are well after so much gadding about. It is satisfactory to have seen all your friends – and Arthur dear boy how well he has turned out . He must have great natural ability as he seems to have achieved his success without much strain on his mental powers – and his physique must also be good to have come in second at a foot race. I hope you will find some means of arranging to pass his time agreeably during the holidays why not send him down to Montreal with Eloise for awhile or if it is too hot there go all up the Ottawa to Pembroke but you will find no place so renovating as the seaside even the St Lawrence. He might on his way to Toronto spend a week or nine days at the farm near Burn Brae and learn to ride on horseback, go anywhere you like and don’t mind a little extra expense – I have been very busy and the weather excessively hot – but have good quarters at Onderdonks when up that way – I came down yesterday and found Tom had been here the day before (Sunday) as he left a letter from you the same date as mine – He seems to be getting along very well – and in good health – what is little dot doing all this time and where is she going to spend the summer – Love and Kisses to all

                       Yours ever

                          M. Smith
