Dear Dad:
Your wire was received by Maybelle at noon today & they phoned me at Ozada to rush home. When I got to the depot they told me mother had passed on so I rushed home.
I tried to make reservations on T.C.A. but could not get anything until Thursday. I phoned Harold in Regina & he had just received your second wire telling us not to bother trying to get home. He tried T.C.A. & also Air Force but no luck.
Listen Pal keep your chin up, Mother has just passed onto the upper Deck & she is in the hands of The Great Architect of the Universe. She is in good hands & is being well taken care of. It is too bad however that Harold & I can’t get home. Please bear up with us Daddy Dear & we will all try & help. If you want me to come home for my New Year’s leave let me know & I will try & arrange it.
I presume there will be a wreath from the family & if so we want to be in on it. It would be rather hard for me to get away at present as there are only 3 officers at the Depot, the balance are away on Xmas leave.
Thank Dillon for keeping us informed Dad, he sure has been a brick. We will drop them a line later on.
Maybelle & Gary join me in sending heaps of love & kisses. Harold tried to get you by phone but had no luck. Now listen Dad if you would like a change how about taking a trip West. We have a spare bed here & sure would love to have you come. How about it Pal.
Must rush to Post Office so you will be sure & get this tomorrow. Please keep (you) chin up Dad & we will write a longer letter later on. Hope you will not mind us being away, but I guess it can’t be helped.
