Computer vended postage returns to Vancouver, B.C

As of 31 October 2016, a new series of Computer vended postage stamps are available in strips of five, of four Permanent, $1.20, $1.80, and $2.50 denominations, from a pair of dispensing machines placed in the new internet-era friendly Concept (Main) Canada Post Office, at Georgia and Richards, in Vancouver.

Sets, costing about $35. are flying out the door as global collectors hear about the new computer vended postage.  The backgrounds by Lowe Martin security, and designed by Stephane Huot, depict artwork by the Group of Seven and Emily Carr, from the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Paintings featured are:  Carr's Indian War Canoe (Alert Bay), Lismer's Little Haven, Nova Scotia, Macdonald's The Front of Winter, Robinson's Winter, Baie-Saint-Paul, and Thomson's In the Northland. Direct thermal printing on Avery Dennison Paper produces the denominations and numeric codes.

According to Canada Post's Jim Phillips, you cannot mix and match denominations at this time. Any glitches in initial printings, including inadvertent collection of PST, have been corrected as of 21 November.  The computer vended postage is being sold to demand and amounts printed will not be announced.  Use on actual letter mail will likely be scarce as demand is mainly coming from collectors and resellers.  The computer vended postage is available in Canada's other two Concept Post Offices, in Edmonton, Ab. and Richmond Hill, On., as of mid-December. Canada Post offers a basic package of Permanent versions online and plans on releasing 8,000 First Day Covers, dated 31 October in Vancouver, in early 2017.

Lot 58 in All Nations' 10 December 2016 auction featured a set of the computer vended postage from the Vancouver Concept Post Office.  Meant to introduce the new format to All Nations' global stamp clients, the lot sold for $104.50.  There is no buyers' premium in All Nations Auctions.

The next Canada Post collectors event at the new Vancouver Concept Post Office is a 9 January 2017 stamp launch for the Lunar New Year.  The first 500 attendees get a free Lunar New Year First Day Cover.
